The basics
Who pays for the replacement car?
The at-fault driver’s insurer. Once liability is accepted, we claim the hire cost from them directly. You don’t pay for the hire, as long as you use the car in line with the hire agreement.
Do I have to pay an excess?
No. There’s no excess to pay on your replacement car.
Are you connected to an insurance company?
No. Go Again Rentals is an independent, locally owned Canterbury business. We work for you — the driver who wasn’t at fault — not for an insurer.
Why should the at-fault driver pay for my hire car?
If someone else causes an accident, they’re responsible for the losses it causes you — including being without your car. New Zealand courts have confirmed that a not-at-fault driver can recover the reasonable cost of a replacement vehicle from the at-fault party and their insurer.
Eligibility
Am I eligible?
Generally, yes — if the accident wasn’t your fault, you know who the other driver is, you hold a full New Zealand driver licence and the accident happened in Canterbury. Use our eligibility checker for a quick answer, or call us to talk it through.
What if the other driver doesn’t have insurance?
Give us a call. An uninsured at-fault driver is still responsible for the costs they cause, and we’ll talk you through your options.
What if I’m not sure who was at fault?
Call us and tell us what happened. If fault is unclear or disputed, we’ll let you know honestly whether we can help.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover all of Canterbury, including Christchurch, Rolleston, Lincoln, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Ashburton, Timaru.
During your hire
What kind of car will I get?
A clean, reliable car from our fleet. Tell us what you use your car for when you apply, and we’ll let you know what’s available.
Can you deliver the car to me?
Yes. We can deliver the car to you, or you can pick it up from us — just let us know which suits you when you apply.
How long can I keep the car?
We’ll confirm your hire period with you before you get the car, and keep you updated if anything changes.
What am I responsible for while I have the car?
Fuel, tolls, parking and any traffic or parking fines, and looking after the car as set out in your hire agreement. We’ll walk you through the agreement before you sign so there are no surprises.
Can I choose where my car is repaired?
Yes. You can choose your own repairer. Just let us know who is repairing your car so we can keep track of when it will be ready.
What do I need to apply?
Your driver licence, your car’s registration number, the other driver’s name and plate number, their insurer if you know it, and photos of the damage if you have them.
Still have questions?
We’re happy to talk it through — no obligation. Or apply now and we’ll call you.
